In a thrilling main event at UFC 305 held on Sunday in Perth, South African fighter Dricus du Plessis successfully defended his UFC middleweight title with a decisive fourth-round submission victory over Israel Adesanya. The bout, held at a sold-out RAC Arena, showcased du Plessis’ relentless determination as he secured his place atop the middleweight division.

The fight began with Adesanya, a two-time former champion, demonstrating his striking prowess and seemingly taking control during the initial rounds. However, du Plessis, known for his resilience and unyielding spirit, turned the tide in the fourth round. A powerful takedown followed by a rear-naked choke forced Adesanya to tap out at 3:38, marking a dramatic end to the highly anticipated match.

“I came in here to die for this belt,” du Plessis declared in his post-fight interview, reflecting on the intensity and high stakes of the fight. “I came here to take it home. Here I am, still the champion.”

Adesanya, who enjoyed significant crowd support, acknowledged his defeat with grace, admitting that a “dumb mistake” on the ground led to his downfall. Despite the loss, he expressed pride in his performance, stating, “I felt strong, but I just had the better man on the night.”

Adding to the night’s excitement was the involvement of Canadian rapper Drake, who placed a massive $500,000 bet on Adesanya to win. Unfortunately for Drake, du Plessis’ unexpected victory left the rapper with a significant loss.

Du Plessis’ victory not only solidified his reign as the middleweight champion but also extended his winning streak to ten fights. His journey to the top has been nothing short of remarkable, having initially claimed the title earlier this year after defeating Sean Strickland.
