Dr. Vusi Chuta Lauds MEC Makalo's Contributions Amidst Matric Success

Dr Vusi Chuta and MEC Makalo Mohale

Dr. Vusi Chuta, Fezile Dabi District Education Director, articulated strong support for MEC Makalo Mohale during the 17th episode of “The Current Review” on Central News. The Free State Education MEC has faced criticisms for allegedly taking undue credit for the 2023 matriculation results that have ranked the province first nationally.

Amidst mixed reactions over the Free State’s stellar performances, Dr. Chuta insisted that such an accomplishment was undoubtedly a product of collective determination and dedication. Dr. Chuta maintained, in his conversation with Thys Khiba, Central News Editor in Chief, and Tebogo Kotsi of the Unsaid Podcast, “Education is team effort—a relay—not about individual accolades. The progress we’re seeing is due to a longstanding, group endeavor and MEC Mohale should be recognized for his part in this success, not diminished.”

Discrediting the naysayer’s views of MEC Mohale’s perceived opportunism, Dr. Chuta delineated the significant role played by the MEC, who previously served at DESTEA. His tenure included instrumental initiatives like equipping schools with much-needed resources and directly engaging in motivational efforts that enhanced educational environments.

Free State Premier Mxolisi Dukwana joined in acknowledgment and expressed sincere commendation towards MEC Mohale for his pronounced leadership, which, he noted, has been instrumental in propelling Free State’s education to commendable heights, as reflected in the impressive matric results.

Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga confirmed Free State’s top rank with an 89.3% pass rate at the announcement event in Gauteng. Attesting to the province’s excellence, the provincial pass rate marked the highest since the initiation of the NSC exams in 2008 and paid tribute to the devoted work of the late Dr. Tate Pule Makgoe, the previous MEC for Education.

In closing, the province and the nation continue to draw inspiration from Makgoe’s unwavering commitment and pursuit of educational superiority. His memory stands as a beacon of fervor, fueling ongoing efforts to uphold educational excellence throughout Free State.
