Popular Free State DJ LeGoody recently lauded the Matjhabeng Summer Blow (MSB) team for their exceptional work in boosting local employment and empowering the creative industry. In a heartfelt message, LeGoody expressed his admiration for how MSB increased employment from 100 to 350 people for their September event. “I was touched by how they increased the number of people they were going to employ from 100 to 350,” LeGoody said, emphasizing the event’s role in supporting local DJs, artists, food vendors, transport providers, and accommodation businesses. He further noted the significance of the MSB’s ability to break barriers without the backing of major sponsors. “Big ups to the MSB consortium for breaking boundaries WITHOUT A SPONSOR,” he added.
The MSB September event, dubbed the “BIG WEEKEND,” was a massive success. The lineup included a wide variety of performances across different genres, offering something for everyone. The MSB Comedy Night kicked off the weekend on Friday, 27 September 2024, with renowned comedians like Salesman, Tumi Morake, and Summary delivering laughter. Saturday’s Spring Blow event brought top musical talents, including Nasty C, Felo Le Tee, Daliwonga, and more, while Sunday offered soulful performances from Ringo and Kelly Khumalo at the Soulful Blow. The weekend culminated with the high-octane Spin Blow, featuring popular spinners Katra, Porra, and Chad.
This year marks the fifth anniversary of the Matjhabeng Summer Blow, a milestone that was announced in April 2024. Since its inception, the MSB has become a cornerstone of the Free State’s event calendar, driving not only entertainment but also economic development in the Matjhabeng District. On 13 September 2024, MSB announced its decision to expand job creation for the September event, increasing the number of employed individuals to 350 due to the overwhelming interest from the community. This decision underscores MSB’s commitment to local economic growth and creating sustainable employment opportunities.
LeGoody, who has been closely following the progress of MSB, also highlighted the financial investment going into the upcoming MSB weekend in December, where national artists are expected to be paid over R1.3 million. He noted that despite the hefty costs, the MSB team continues to push boundaries and deliver exceptional experiences for attendees.
Looking ahead, the MSB has an exciting lineup of events planned for the rest of 2024. The next big events will take place in December, including the Matjhabeng Soulful Blow on 16 December and the highly anticipated Matjhabeng Summer Blow on 28 December 2024. These events are expected to attract large crowds and further bolster the local economy by providing jobs and business opportunities for local entrepreneurs.
MSB’s growth over the years has been impressive, with the consortium’s focus on empowering the community and promoting Free State talent. The events have not only provided entertainment but also made a significant impact on the livelihoods of many. As the MSB team gears up for the festive season, their commitment to local economic health and job creation remains steadfast, ensuring that the Free State continues to thrive as a hub of creativity and opportunity.
This year’s MSB events calendar has been packed with exciting happenings, including the MSB Fun Walk on 16 June 2024, the September “BIG WEEKEND,” and the upcoming December celebrations. As the festival season approaches, MSB is set to close out the year on a high note, offering even more job opportunities and thrilling entertainment for Free State residents and visitors alike.
