The Johannesburg Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Public Safety, Cllr. Dr Mgcini Tshwaku, will be conducting an urgent inspection at Devland Cash and Carry on Tuesday, 22 October 2024 (Today), following serious allegations that the distributor has been selling expired food items to customers. The inspection will take place at 12:00, at the store located at Klepkas and Piston Roads in Lenasia, Soweto.
This bylaw enforcement comes amid growing concerns about food safety, as the city continues to “shine the spotlight on food safety” under the campaign hashtag #ManjeNamhlanje.
The City of Joburg has vowed to prioritise public health and safety, ensuring that retailers comply with food regulations to protect consumers.
Further updates will follow as this situation unfolds.
