In a developing situation, KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) police and officials from the South African Revenue Service (SARS) are currently conducting a raid at the La Lucia residence of prominent businesswoman and reality TV star, Shauwn Mkhize, popularly known as MaMkhize. The specific reasons for the raid have not been officially disclosed at this time.

This action follows a series of legal challenges faced by Mkhize concerning tax-related matters. In May 2024, SARS obtained a provisional preservation order to seize assets, including luxury vehicles, to recover approximately R37 million in unpaid taxes linked to Mkhize’s businesses and associated entities. However, attempts to execute the order were met with resistance from Mkhize’s security personnel, leading to a standoff that resulted in the temporary suspension of the asset seizure.

The situation escalated in July 2024 when Advocate Coreth Naudé, representing SARS in the tax inquiry involving Mkhize, survived an assassination attempt in uMhlanga, Durban. Naudé was shot multiple times while arriving at her hotel but managed to survive the attack. SARS Commissioner Edward Kieswetter condemned the incident, describing it as an assault on the state’s authority and the rule of law.

Mkhize, known for her reality television series “Kwa Mam’Mkhize” and ownership of the Royal AM Football Club, has previously faced legal scrutiny. In 2012, she was charged with multiple counts of tax fraud, although the charges were later withdrawn.

As the current raid unfolds, authorities have yet to provide detailed information regarding the operation’s objectives or any findings thus far. Efforts to contact Mkhize’s representatives for comment have been unsuccessful.

This is a developing story, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
