DESTEA
The Free State Department of Economic, Small Business Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (DESTEA) has issued a warning to the business community about fraudulent tender invitations.
According to the departmental spokesperson, Mojalefa Mphapang, an opportunistic scammer is posing as an official representative and issuing fake invitations to an open tender for the supply and delivery of 27 paper shredders.
This alleged scammer has been sending out counterfeit tender documents, complete with the DESTEA official logo, to service providers. The scammer claims to be an official representative of the department, but DESTEA has made it clear that these invitations are not legitimate.
The department is urging service providers to be cautious and not to fall for these fraudulent tender invitations. They are also encouraging members of the business community to report any suspected criminal activity to the South African Police Service (SAPS). Additionally, they are advising that any requests for tender be verified with the DESTEA Supply Chain Office as soon as they are received. This can be done by contacting the office via email at customercare@destea.gov.za, mooketsio@destea.gov.za, or masemeb@destea.gov.za. Alternatively, authenticity can be confirmed through the DESTEA Customer Care WhatsApp number: 0829475394.
