The Democratic Alliance (DA) has announced their readiness to govern the Free State, with Dr Roy Jankielsohn at the helm as the premier candidate. At manifesto launch in Thaba Nchu on Friday, both Jankielsohn and DA Federal Leader John Steenhuisen outlined a plan aimed at rescuing the province from its current plight.

Speaking to a gathered crowd, Dr Jankielsohn emphasised the nature of the upcoming election on the 29th of May, calling it “the biggest landmark in South African political history since the first inclusive democratic election in 1994.” He highlighted the critical opportunity presented to voters to change the trajectory of the province and the country, underscoring the urgent need to address economic decline, crime, and corruption.

Jankielsohn elaborated on the DA’s approach to transforming the Free State, outlining key initiatives such as fostering investment and job creation, restoring water and basic services, eradicating crime and corruption, rejuvenating the province’s road infrastructure, and enhancing the efficiency of the provincial administration. He said, “The plan is in place and the opportunity to realise the immense economic potential of our province is within reach.”

When announcing Dr. Jankielsohn as the Premier Candidate last year, Steenhuisen highlighted his credentials, praising his track record and dedication to good governance.“Roy is experienced, committed and skilled. His history and track record shows a commitment to clean governance and zero tolerance of corruption.” Steenhuisen credited Jankielsohn with leading the charge against corruption, notably against prominent figures within the ANC Free State.

Steenhuisen vowed to create 2 million jobs across South Africa, presenting this promise during the party’s national manifesto launch in February.

Steenhuisen said, “The Democratic Alliance is in it to win it this election. Our mission is clear – to rescue the Union Buildings from the clutches of a corrupt government and to restore pride in our nation.”
