DBE Minister Motshekga in Free State to monitor Covid-19 vaccination roll-out

Botshabelo – The Minister of Basic Education (DBE), Angie Motshekga is expected to join the Free State MEC for Education, Dr Tate Makgoe as she will be monitoring the roll-out of Covid-19 vaccination of teachers and support staff members, on Monday 28 June.

It is now more than 185 000 educators and staff who have been vaccinated in the basic education sector.

The sector has a target of 582 000 people to be vaccinated by 8 July 2021.

The Free State education sector province led by Dr Makgoe has managed to vaccinate more than 12 000 teachers and support staff members in their 29 centres.

According to the national spokesperson for the sector, Elijah Mhlanga, the Limpopo province has managed to administer the vaccine on 15 000 people in two successive days. The province will need one more day to complete vaccinating everybody in the Covid-19 vaccination registration list.

“ On Friday and Saturday 30 000 teachers and support staff were vaccinated in Limpopo alone,” said Mhlanga.

Motshekga is expected to start her visit and inspection at the Seemahale Secondary School in Botshabelo at least 09h00.

“The Minister will proceed to the Northern Cape on Tuesday. Minister is scheduled to be in the Eastern Cape on Thursday this week,” said Mhlanga.
