David Noko Reappointed as UFS Council Chairperson for Second Term
Bloemfontein, 07 October 2025 – The Council of the University of the Free State has reappointed well-known business leader David Noko as its Chairperson for a second term, starting on 01 October 2025 and running until 13 September 2027. This decision comes as the university looks to build on its recent progress in research, student support and community outreach. Noko, with his rich background in mining, engineering and corporate governance, brings a wealth of experience to help steer the institution forward.
University leaders have praised his steady hand during his first term, which began in 2021. His reappointment highlights the value of strong leadership in driving change at one of the country’s top universities.
The announcement was made after the Council’s meeting on 26 September 2025, showing trust in Noko’s ability to handle the university’s strategic goals. This move is seen as a boost for the UFS, which has been working hard to improve its global standing and support for students from all backgrounds.
Noko’s Humble Acceptance and Commitment to Service
Noko shared his thoughts on the reappointment, expressing his deep sense of honour and eagerness to keep contributing.
“It is an honour for me to be re-elected as the Chairperson of Council. I cherish my involvement with the Council and am honoured to be part of the University of the Free State in this way. I have experienced immense commitment from the Council during my tenure as Chairperson and look forward to continuing to serve,” said Mr Noko.
His words reflect a strong dedication to the university’s mission, built on years of guiding big organisations through tough times. Noko’s first term saw the UFS tackle key projects, like expanding online learning and boosting research in areas like agriculture and health.
Vice-Chancellor’s Praise for Noko’s Leadership
