Dan Morokane
The Minister of Public Enterprises, Pravin Gordhan, has announced the appointment of Dan Morokane as the new Eskom Group CEO. This news comes as a positive development for the embattled South African power utility, which has been facing numerous challenges in recent years.
Gordhan praised Morokane as a qualified Chemical Engineer with an MBA and more than 20 years of senior leadership experience. He is known for his ability to lead distressed organizations with visible and pressurized turnaround mandates, making him a strong fit for the role.
Out of 409 applications received for the position, Morokane emerged as the top candidate through a rigorous selection process. His previous experience at Eskom from 2010 to 2015, as well as his recent assignment at Tongaat-Hulett, has prepared him to lead the financially distressed business.
Despite being one of four senior managers suspended during the state capture period, Morokane’s track record and qualifications have made him the ideal candidate for the position. Mandatory checks, including criminal and credit checks, verification of identity, qualifications, directorships, and establishment of conflicts of interest have been completed.
Morokane is expected to take up his new role no later than 31 March 2024, and his appointment has been met with optimism and hope for the future of Eskom. With his leadership, the company aims to overcome its challenges and steer towards a path of growth and stability.
