By Thys Khiba – Democratic Alliance (DA) Executive Mayor in Metsimaholo Local Municipality, Jeff Zwane has allegedly appointed his body guard and driver as a technical contact person in a publicly advertised security tender.
On Monday, 03 October the municipality publicly announced and invited bids for the provision of security services for the municipality renewable annually, for a period of three years (3YRS).
The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Provincial Secretary in the province, Bosanku Msimanga told Free State Central News that they are disappointed by the actions allegedly taken by Zwane to appoint his body guard to be a contact person for a municipal tender.
Msimanga accused of Zwane taking decisions that are against ‘the standing resolution of insourcing of security guards’. He threatened that his party will remove the executive mayor if he is going to appear as a corrupt council leader.
The EFF said they will never tolerate corruption in the municipalities, whether done by the African National Congress (ANC) and Democratic Alliance (DA).
“But most importantly what disappointed us even more is the mere fact that the mayor is interfering with supply chain processes to an extend that of appointing his body guard to act as an expert on issues that he doesn’t have expertise on. It is really troubling..,” said Msimanga.
The EFF confirmed that the decisions taken by Zwane will influence them to remove him as the executive mayor of Metsimaholo.
“What we are going to do through our legislative processes, we will ask the executive mayor to explain himself including the municipal manager must really explain themselves.”
At the time of publishing this article, Central News couldn’t get a comment from the municipality.
