Zandile Mafe
The Western Cape High Court has made a ruling that Zandile Mafe is not fit to stand trial. This decision was reached after Mafe appeared in court on Monday morning to face charges of arson and terrorism in connection with the fire that destroyed the Parliament’s old and National Assembly buildings.
Presiding Judge Nathan Erasmus stated that his finding aligns with the assessments of experts, indicating that Mafe is not able to follow court proceedings or make a proper defense.
Mafe was diagnosed with schizophrenia by a team of specialists at Eastern Cape’s Fort England Hospital, further supporting the court’s ruling.
