COPE Manifesto Launch Postponed

The Congress of the People (COPE) has taken the decision to postpone their manifesto launch, initially set for today in Hammanskraal. The party attributed the postponement to an unexpected rise in the number of COPE faithfuls planning to attend, voicing concerns over possible overcrowding and safety hazards.

The acting General Secretary of COPE, Erick Mohlapamaswi, elaborated on the reasons for this last-minute change of plans with an air of caution, “Following the announcement of our ‘readiness’ today (Friday), we have since received requests from potential partners who have expressed interest in collaborating with COPE and be part of the manifesto launch ahead of the 2024 general elections. As a result, the number of supporters to be bused to the venue has increased and this has created capacity challenges as the venue may not be able to accommodate a host of supporters expected to attend. The party’s national executive committee has taken a decision to postpone the launch to avoid potential disasters such as stampedes.”

The decision arrives as a preventive measure following rigorous safety assessments, emphasising COPE’s commitment to safeguarding its members and the general public. The rising support and unexpected partnership interests have reportedly exceeded the party’s provisions for the original venue.

Acknowledging the impact of the decision, Mohlapamaswi offered an apology to those affected, “We wish to extend our sincere apologies for the inconvenience this may have caused and extend our gratitude for the ongoing support.”
