Midvaal Local Municipality has secured yet another significant investment, further positioning itself as a prime destination for business in Gauteng. On Friday, Midvaal Mayoral Spokesperson Idah Satikhe announced that Clover, in partnership with Chemlink SA, will establish a new production line in the municipality. The partnership underscores Midvaal’s growing reputation for fostering a business-friendly environment, with the potential to bring economic growth and much-needed employment opportunities to the area.

Clover has contracted Chemlink SA to produce 1.7 million aerosol cans in the first year—this includes packing butro (butter spread) in aerosol spray cans to be used as spray cooking oil. This investment not only marks a significant financial injection into Midvaal’s economy but also solidifies its standing as an emerging industrial hub, offering a fertile ground for businesses looking to expand.

A Strategic Partnership for Growth

Clover’s decision to establish operations in Midvaal did not happen by chance. The company could have chosen to partner with manufacturers in other regions but ultimately selected Midvaal due to its ideal infrastructure, governance, and the municipality’s business-centric approach. This partnership with Chemlink SA is just the latest in a series of initiatives that reflect Midvaal’s commitment to fostering an environment conducive to economic development.

Satikhe emphasized the significance of this partnership:

“This partnership highlights the strides we’re making in creating a business-friendly environment and attracting investment. Clover had the option to partner with manufacturers in other regions but chose to establish operations in Midvaal. This decision reflects how Midvaal is rapidly becoming the investment destination of choice.”

Clover’s move to Midvaal comes as the municipality continues to attract various businesses, including major companies like South African Breweries (SAB), which already operates within the province. As Midvaal cements itself as an attractive investment hub, its reputation as a municipality with clean audits and financial sustainability has set the stage for excellent service delivery and good governance.

Why Midvaal Stands Out for Investors

Midvaal’s success in attracting Clover and Chemlink SA can be attributed to the deliberate efforts of its local administration. Over the years, the municipality has been investing heavily in infrastructure development, making it a desirable location for investors. Proper roads, a consistent supply of bulk services such as water and electricity, and the municipality’s proactive approach to business all play a role in drawing new investments.

“Midvaal is investing heavily in infrastructure development, which includes proper roads and a consistent supply of bulk services such as water and electricity—this is what makes an area more attractive to investors,” Satikhe noted. “We are also rolling out the red carpet for investors, cutting red tape to ensure a seamless process for businesses to establish themselves in our municipality.”

These efforts are a crucial part of Midvaal’s overarching goal of growing its local economy and reducing unemployment, a goal echoed by the Mayor in various public addresses. One of Midvaal’s standout achievements is its ability to reduce turnaround times for land use applications to an average of six months, a significant improvement compared to the 16-month legislated timeframe. This has made the area even more appealing to businesses seeking to set up operations quickly and efficiently.

A Focus on Employment and Economic Development

Clover’s new production line is expected to bring a variety of employment opportunities for local residents, further advancing Midvaal’s efforts to reduce unemployment. By positioning itself as a hub for new and growing businesses, Midvaal is helping to stimulate its local economy while also providing residents with job security and career growth opportunities.

“We have also tasked our Local Economic Development (LED) team with conducting a comprehensive survey of our commercial and industrial areas. With this data, we will be able to respond more proactively and strategically to foster even greater growth and investment in Midvaal,” Satikhe added.

Midvaal’s Local Economic Development (LED) team plays a key role in mapping out areas for commercial and industrial growth, ensuring that businesses like Clover and Chemlink SA have the necessary support to succeed. By understanding the specific needs of investors and removing bureaucratic hurdles, the municipality has set itself up as a go-to destination for companies looking for a favourable investment environment.

Partnership with Chemlink SA: A Game-Changer

Chemlink SA, known for its industrial manufacturing expertise, is set to play a pivotal role in this new venture. Clover has entrusted Chemlink SA with the production and packing of 1.7 million aerosol cans in the first year, making this one of the most significant industrial partnerships in the region.

This includes the production of butro, a butter spread packaged in aerosol cans to be used as spray cooking oil—a unique product in the South African market. The collaboration between Clover and Chemlink SA is expected to lead to the development of innovative manufacturing techniques that will not only benefit the local economy but also set a new standard in the food production industry.

Midvaal’s Track Record in Good Governance

One of the main reasons Clover and Chemlink SA chose Midvaal is the municipality’s strong track record in governance and financial sustainability. Midvaal has consistently achieved clean audits and is regarded as one of the most financially sustainable municipalities in South Africa. This reputation translates into excellent service delivery, efficient governance, and transparency in how municipal resources are managed.

Midvaal’s Executive Mayor, Ald. Peter Teixeira, has been vocal about the municipality’s deliberate strategy to position itself as an investment destination within Gauteng Province. Under his leadership, Midvaal has continued to push forward with its development plans, ensuring that both local businesses and international investors find the area conducive for their operations.

“Our administration has been deliberate in positioning Midvaal as an investment destination within Gauteng. This has been achieved through effective governance, infrastructure investment, and a commitment to reducing the bureaucratic red tape that often discourages investors,” Teixeira explained in a recent address.

A Growing Investment Hub: SAB and Beyond

Clover’s decision to invest in Midvaal follows similar moves by other major companies, including South African Breweries (SAB), which has been operating in the region for several years. The municipality’s reputation for being business-friendly is not limited to a single sector—industries ranging from manufacturing to retail have found success in Midvaal, and this trend shows no signs of slowing down.

With its robust infrastructure, proactive governance, and a focus on creating jobs and promoting local economic development, Midvaal is well on its way to becoming a key player in Gauteng’s economic landscape. The investment from Clover and Chemlink SA is expected to generate additional interest from other businesses looking for a stable and profitable environment.

Commitment to Long-Term Growth

Midvaal’s leadership remains committed to long-term growth, and the Clover-Chemlink SA partnership is just one example of how the municipality is attracting high-profile investments. Infrastructure development, clean governance, and efficient service delivery remain top priorities, ensuring that Midvaal will continue to attract new businesses while fostering a strong local economy.

“All these efforts are a crucial part of growing our local economy and form part of our plan to further reduce unemployment. Midvaal remains committed to promoting local economic development and creating opportunities for all,” Satikhe reaffirmed.

The LED team will continue its work in identifying new growth areas and supporting businesses that choose to invest in Midvaal, ensuring that the municipality remains ahead of the curve when it comes to attracting investment.
