By Thys Khiba – DStv Premiership side Kaizer Chiefs disappointed their supporters when they faced difficulties in their home clash against Chippa United at Durban’s Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday.

Chiefs dominated all aspects of play but failed to stop Chippa United from scoring their goal and disappointingly went down 2-1. Chippa were enjoying some possession, but we’re doing little of note with it, yet they showed how dangerous they could be on the counter attack in the 35th minute as a flowing Chilli Boys move ended with Siphelele Luthuli laying off an inviting ball for Elmo Kambindu.

The club confirmed Amakhosi tried to give their Chairman, Dr Kaizer Motaung, an early birthday present in their attempt to beat the Chilli Boys.

“Chiefs tried desperately to give Chairman, Dr Kaizer Motaung, an early 78th birthday present in their attempt to surge to the top of the DStv Premiership log with a win, but it was not to be as Amakhosi again rued missed opportunities,” said the club in a statement.

Head Coach Arthur Zwane wasn’t impressed by side’s complacent approach, saying that his side could have better against an “unpredictable “ Chippa United.

“I think we won the game before we even started. You could see at the beginning of the game we were a bit sluggish and we thought it was going to be an easy game,” said Zwane.

His side suffered their first home defeat of DStv Premiership, which leaves them with 18 points at position three of the league.

Club captain Keagan Dolly and striker Caleb Bimenyimana failed to utilise opportunities and great chances to score. Glamorous Boys Zwane expressed his frustrations at the two’s failure to score the two goals.

“At halftime I had to jack them (the players) up a bit just tomake them aware, because in the first half, even though we scored the goal, we didn’t dictate terms, we didn’t show character and we allowed them to do whatever they wanted to do,” said Zwane.

With the first half score, Chiefs were leading the DStv Premiership log and gone on a seven-game unbeaten in all competitions.

“We have ourselves to blame here. This is one game that could’ve helped us keep our confidence sky-high, but we let ourselves down big time and I hope we can learn from this,” Zwane said.
