Chauke becomes third prison escapee to be rearrested

By Thys Khiba – South African police officials have arrested a third suspect, Zimbabwean national Trymore Chauke who escaped from the Waainek Correctional facility in Makhanda in the Eastern Cape. 

This comes after police launched a manhunt for seven prisoners who broke out of Grahamstown Correctional facility last Tuesday. 

It is alleged the detainees who are considered dangerous escaped through a prison window.

It is now four escapees who are still on the run. After the recapture of Chauke, Bennet Kwarie and Simba Masinga.

“A task team immediately followed up the leads, and within 30 minutes, they rearrested a third escapee, Trymore Chauke in Seven Fountains,” said police spokesperson Warrant Officer Majola Nkohli. 

The seven prisoners are facing charges of rhino poaching. 

“Police are urging communities to continue alerting them about any suspicious person in their neighbourhoods, so that all these escapees can be arrested and once again be in custody.”
