South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has extended his warm congratulations to the Springboks on their Rugby World Cup 2023 victory over New Zealand on Saturday, 28 October.

South Africa is the first country to win this championship four times.

“Tonight, Siya Kolisi and the 2023 World Cup champions have gifted us an extraordinary, inspired and inspiring national achievement that lifts our hearts and hoists our Flag even higher,” said Ramaphosa.

While watching the Springboks at the Stade de France on Saturday evening, Ramaphosa commended the coaching team, the broader squad and the team management and technical and support staff of the Springboks.

Ramaphosa said: “Stronger Together is a belief that came to life for Springbok supporters all around our country and continent, and the world.

“Sport has the power to transform the lives and lift the spirits of entire nations.

Amabokoboko’ victory evoked memories of 1995 when South Africa’s first black president, Tata Madiba Nelson Mandela, handed the Webb Ellis Cup to Francois Pienaar at the Ellis Park Stadium.

Meanwhile, Ramaphosa has offered his message of congratulations to the All Blacks for what he calls ‘a hard-fought World Cup campaign’ that made them to be deserving finalists.

South Africans who were watching the Springboks all over the country painted a united picture of a rainbow nation in a unique manner.

While depressed by persistent load shedding, the poor economic conditions, the high crime rate and a cost of living crisis, Mzansipeople used the Rugby World Cup Final Match to unite once again.

North West resident, Refilwe Valencia Motsanana viewed Amabokoboko match as an extraordinary and inspiring match that united South Africans.

“I don’t understand the game of rugby, but tonight was more about unity and standing together as a nation. We are proud of Springboks team. It was not easy, but we made it,” said Motsanana.
