The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) have strongly condemned U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent remarks advocating for the forced removal of Palestinians from Gaza. The party has labeled his statements as “genocidal” and a blatant violation of international law, accusing him of supporting ethnic cleansing and furthering Israel’s long-standing policies of oppression against the Palestinian people.

The condemnation follows Trump’s declaration that Palestinians should have no right to return to Gaza and should instead be permanently relocated to other countries such as Jordan or Egypt. His remarks, made during a public address, have drawn global outrage, with critics accusing him of advocating for a policy that violates international human rights laws.

The EFF, in a statement issued by its spokesperson Sinawo Thambo, reaffirmed its unwavering support for the Palestinian people, calling Trump’s proposal the “final step in a campaign of destruction” that has left Gaza in ruins. The party also accused Israel of systematically erasing Palestinians from their homeland with the backing of the United States.

Trump’s “Genocidal” Remarks Spark Global Outrage

The latest controversy emerged when Trump suggested that Palestinians should not return to Gaza and instead be permanently relocated, claiming they would be given “much better housing” elsewhere. He also implied that Egypt and Jordan could take in the displaced Palestinian population—a proposal both nations have firmly rejected.

During his speech, Trump went further, proposing that the United States, with Israel’s backing, could “redevelop” Gaza and transform it into the “Riviera of the Middle East.” This statement was widely seen as an endorsement of Israeli expansionism at the expense of the Palestinian people.

The EFF rejected Trump’s proposal outright, stating:

“Trump has shamelessly stated that Palestinians should have no right to return to Gaza and instead be permanently relocated, claiming that they would be given ‘much better housing’ elsewhere. His remarks expose the long-standing Zionist plan to depopulate Gaza of Palestinians entirely while keeping the land for Israel’s exclusive use.”

The statement went on to accuse Israel of conducting a systematic campaign to remove Palestinians from their land, arguing that this is part of a broader historical pattern that dates back to the Nakba in 1948.

EFF Accuses the U.S. and Israel of Systematic Ethnic Cleansing

The EFF’s statement highlighted how Trump’s proposal aligns with Israel’s broader military and political strategy, which it described as a systematic campaign to remove Palestinians from their homeland. The party accused Israel of deliberately destroying Palestinian infrastructure, including homes, hospitals, and universities, to make Gaza uninhabitable.

The statement added:

“This is not a new policy—it is the final step in a campaign of destruction that has left Gaza in ruins, with entire families wiped out and all critical infrastructure, including hospitals, universities, and historical sites, systematically demolished.”

The EFF also pointed to the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza, where millions of Palestinians have been displaced due to Israeli bombardment. The party accused Israel of blocking humanitarian aid, further worsening the suffering of displaced Palestinians.

Trump’s Statements in Context: A Broader Attack on Palestine

Trump’s latest remarks have come at a time when Israel is intensifying its military operations in Gaza and the West Bank. Reports indicate that over 70 people have been killed in the West Bank since the beginning of the year, with over 26,000 internally displaced due to continued Israeli attacks.

The EFF noted that while Israel had agreed to a temporary ceasefire, the situation on the ground had not improved. The party cited reports that Palestinians attempting to return to their homes in Gaza had been met with violence, with Israeli forces opening fire on those trying to reclaim their land.

“The so-called ceasefire, which was supposed to allow for humanitarian relief, has proven to be yet another deception. Many have been shot dead by Israeli forces simply for trying to return to their homes, which have either been destroyed or remain uninhabitable.”

The EFF’s statement aligns with international concerns that Israel is using temporary ceasefires as a strategic pause before resuming its military operations.

Trump’s Hypocrisy on Human Rights and South Africa’s Role

The EFF also linked Trump’s remarks to his broader political agenda, arguing that his stance on Palestine is consistent with his history of siding with white supremacists and far-right groups.

The party noted that Trump has actively supported right-wing forces in South Africa, particularly those opposing the government’s land reform policies. The EFF accused him of hypocrisy, pointing out that while he condemns South Africa for alleged “land grabs” from white landowners, he fully supports Israel’s dispossession of Palestinians.

“Trump falsely accuses the South African government of conducting ‘land grabs’ from Afrikaners and threatens economic sanctions, yet he boldly supports the violent dispossession of Palestinians. This hypocrisy is not lost on us—it is the hallmark of white supremacy, colonialism, and the cruelty of imperialism.”

The EFF further argued that Trump’s hostility toward South Africa is a direct response to the country’s decision to take Israel to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) over allegations of genocide in Gaza.

Trump’s Attack on the ICC: Protecting War Criminals

The EFF’s statement also highlighted Trump’s opposition to the International Criminal Court (ICC), which recently issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his defense minister over alleged war crimes. Trump has responded by calling for sanctions against the ICC, a move widely seen as an attempt to shield Israeli leaders from accountability.

“Trump’s threats against the ICC demonstrate his commitment to shielding war criminals. In retaliation for the ICC’s decision to issue arrest warrants for Israeli leaders, Trump has moved to sanction the court, seeking to cripple its ability to hold perpetrators accountable.”

The EFF pointed out that the United States is not even a signatory to the Rome Statute, the treaty that established the ICC, yet Trump is attempting to undermine its authority.

“It is clear that the USA only supports international law when it can be weaponized against its enemies but will undermine it when it threatens their imperialist interests.”

EFF Calls for Global Action Against Trump and Israel

The EFF concluded its statement by calling on “progressive forces across the world” to reject Trump’s proposals and take action against Israel’s policies in Palestine.

The party reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Palestinian people and their right to resist occupation “by any means necessary.”

“The EFF reiterates its support for the Palestinian people and their right to resist occupation by any means necessary. The world must stand against this atrocity, or history will remember it as the greatest failure of humanity.”

The party urged governments, civil society groups, and international organizations to take decisive action against Israel and the United States, warning that failure to act would embolden further violations of international law.

International Reactions and the Path Forward

Trump’s remarks have been widely condemned by human rights organizations, legal experts, and political leaders worldwide. Analysts have described his plan as ethnic cleansing, arguing that forced displacement violates multiple international treaties, including the Geneva Conventions.

Jordan and Egypt have both rejected Trump’s proposal, stating that they will not accept the forced relocation of Palestinians to their territories. Jordan’s King Abdullah II has reaffirmed his country’s stance, calling any attempt to transfer Palestinian populations a “red line.”

Legal scholars have also weighed in, with John Quigley, a professor of law at Ohio State University, warning that the forced displacement of Palestinians constitutes a war crime under the Rome Statute of the ICC.

“The forced displacement of Palestinians from their homes is a clear violation of international law and is unequivocally unlawful.”

The global backlash suggests that Trump’s proposal is unlikely to gain traction, but the controversy underscores the ongoing struggle for Palestinian self-determination.
