The highly anticipated DStv Delicious International Food & Music Festival kicked off with a weekend of incredible performances and emotional tributes, and one of the standout moments came on Saturday, when Cassper Nyovest, Morafe, and Khuli Chana took to the stage to honour the legacy of the late HHP (Jabulani Tsambo). The trio performed HHP’s iconic track “Bosso Ke Mang?” at the festival, delivering a heartfelt rendition that moved the audience, paying tribute to the man who helped shape South African hip-hop and paved the way for many artists, including themselves.
HHP, also known as Hip Hop Pantsula, is credited with popularizing the Motswako genre, a unique blend of hip-hop, jazz, and traditional South African sounds. His influence on Cassper Nyovest, Morafe, and Khuli Chana cannot be overstated, as all three artists had been mentored by him during the early stages of their careers. Cassper Nyovest, in particular, often credits HHP for giving him his first big break, a sentiment that was palpable in his performance at the festival.
OkmalumKoolkat’s Tribute to Riky Rick
Another emotional moment came when OkmalumKoolkat hit the stage to remember his close friend, the late Riky Rick. Performing in honour of the man known affectionately as Boss Zonke, OkmalumKoolkat delivered an electrifying set, reminding everyone why Riky Rick was such an influential figure in the South African music scene. The crowd, many of whom were long-time fans of both artists, responded with a roar of appreciation, adding to the festival’s already vibrant atmosphere.
Busta Rhymes’ High-Energy Performance
Despite the cold weather, the crowd’s energy was kept alive by the arrival of international rap icon Busta Rhymes, who headlined the festival on Saturday. His high-energy performance captivated the audience, proving that even the chill in the air couldn’t dampen the festival’s spirit. Performing a medley of his biggest hits, Busta Rhymes showed why he remains one of the most iconic performers in the hip-hop world. The audience, bundled up against the cold, danced and sang along, making his set one of the highlights of the evening.
Day 2 of the Festival
As the festival moved into Day 2, the excitement continued with a packed schedule featuring some of the best names in South African and international music. With performances lined up by Jill Scott, Sjava, and the Soweto Gospel Choir, among others, fans can expect another day of unforgettable music, delicious food, and great vibes.
The festival has been trending on social media, particularly on X (formerly Twitter), where fans have been sharing their experiences and excitement about the performances. Comments such as “Cassper’s tribute to HHP brought me to tears” and “OkmalumKoolkat just made me miss Riky Rick even more” flooded the platform, showing how deeply these performances resonated with the audience. The DStv Delicious Festival’s official account also shared posts of the event, highlighting the stellar line-up and crowd reactions, adding to the growing buzz around the festival.
The DStv Delicious Festival has once again proven why it is one of South Africa’s premier cultural events, seamlessly blending music, food, and art into a celebration that brings people together across generations and backgrounds.
