Cape Town

Cape Town is currently hosting the Future Hospitality Summit Africa 2025, a major event driving hospitality investment across the continent. Western Cape MEC for Agriculture, Economic Development, and Tourism, Dr. Ivan Meyer, welcomed delegates from around the world to the summit, which kicked off on Tuesday, 17 June, at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC). Running until Thursday, 19 June, the summit is connecting global investors with exciting opportunities in Africa’s hospitality and tourism sectors.
A Decade of Impact in Hospitality Investment
For over ten years, the Future Hospitality Summit Africa—previously known as the Africa Hospitality Investment Forum (AHIF)—has been a key platform for hospitality investment in Africa. It has sparked growth, linked visionaries, and reshaped the continent’s tourism and hospitality landscape. This year’s event brings together investors, developers, operators, and industry leaders, all focused on turning Africa’s potential into real results.
Cape Town: A Gateway to Opportunity
In his opening address, Dr. Ivan Meyer highlighted Cape Town’s vital role in the industry. “Cape Town is not just a backdrop; it is a beacon of possibility. Our world-class infrastructure, stable governance, and vibrant economic ecosystem make the Western Cape Africa’s gateway to investment,” he said. His words underline the province’s ambition to lead the way in hospitality and tourism development.
The summit also sets the stage for the Western Cape Investment Summit 2025, scheduled for 5-7 November. This upcoming event will further connect global capital with high-impact projects, building on the momentum from the current gathering.
Boosting Jobs and Economic Growth
The hospitality and tourism sectors are at the heart of the Western Cape’s Growth for Jobs Strategy. This plan aims to attract R200 billion in direct investment and grow the province’s economy to R1 trillion by 2035, with an annual growth rate of 3-5%. Cape Town’s hotels are already showing strong performance, recording a 72.5% occupancy rate in April 2025—the highest in South Africa. Revenue per available room (RevPAR) also jumped by 20.1% compared to the previous year, with luxury properties leading the way. These figures cement the city’s reputation as a top global tourism destination.
Investment Opportunities on Display
The Future Hospitality Summit Africa 2025 is showcasing investment-ready projects across nine sectors, with a special focus on tourism and hospitality. These projects promise premium experiences, rich cultural value, and cutting-edge technology. The event offers practical support for investors, including streamlined regulations, faster approvals, and direct access to decision-makers. Over 450 delegates from more than 40 countries are attending, including big names like William E. Heinecke, Founder and Chairman of Minor Hotels. The summit features networking sessions, investor meetings, and exclusive tours of Cape Town’s newest hospitality developments.
A Call to Shape Africa’s Future
Dr. Meyer wrapped up his address with an invitation to the Western Cape Investment Summit 2025. “Join us to shape the future of hospitality and tourism in Africa. Together, we can create jobs, uplift communities, and position the Western Cape as Africa’s investment leader,” he urged. His message reflects the summit’s broader goal: to drive progress and opportunity across the continent.
