By Sello Masilo
Cape Town City FC’s head coach, Muhsin Ertugral, has been honoured as the Betway Premiership Coach of the Month for January 2025. This accolade comes as a recognition of his exceptional leadership and the team’s impressive performances throughout the month.
A Month of Remarkable Victories
Under Ertugral’s guidance, Cape Town City secured significant victories against some of the league’s most formidable teams. On 5 January 2025, they clinched a 1-0 win over Kaizer Chiefs, with the decisive goal scored by Darwin González. Following this, on 8 January, the team triumphed over Orlando Pirates with another 1-0 victory, showcasing their defensive resilience and strategic prowess.
These consecutive wins not only bolstered the team’s standing in the Betway Premiership but also highlighted Ertugral’s effective coaching strategies and his ability to maximise player potential.
Ertugral’s Impact Since Appointment
Appointed in late 2024, Ertugral has swiftly instilled a winning mentality within the squad. His emphasis on disciplined defence and cohesive teamwork has been evident in the team’s recent performances. Players have responded positively to his methods, resulting in a series of strong showings on the pitch.
The victory against Kaizer Chiefs was particularly noteworthy, as it marked Cape Town City’s first win over the Soweto giants in over two seasons. This achievement not only ended the drought but also served as a statement of the team’s resurgence under Ertugral’s leadership.
Recognition from the Football Community
The Premier Soccer League (PSL) officially announced Ertugral’s Coach of the Month award, acknowledging his contributions to Cape Town City’s success. The PSL’s statement highlighted the team’s tactical discipline and the significant improvement in their performances since his appointment.
Cape Town City FC also celebrated the accolade, with the club’s official social media channels praising Ertugral’s dedication and the positive impact he has had on the team. Fans and players alike have expressed their support and appreciation for his efforts in turning the team’s fortunes around.
Looking Ahead
Building on the momentum from January, Cape Town City aims to continue their ascent in the league standings. Upcoming fixtures present both challenges and opportunities for the team to further demonstrate their capabilities.
Ertugral has emphasized the importance of maintaining focus and consistency. In a recent interview, he stated, “Our recent successes are a testament to the hard work of the players and the support staff. However, we must remain grounded and continue to strive for excellence in every match.”
The team’s next match is scheduled for 11 February 2025, where they will face a formidable opponent. Fans are hopeful that the team’s current form will carry them to another positive result.
