Cabinet Urges SASSA
By Natalie Naidoo
Pretoria – Cabinet has urged all South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) beneficiaries to replace their SASSA Gold Cards with the new Postbank Black Cards by 20 March 2025. This transition is essential to ensure uninterrupted access to social grant payments.
The deadline, initially set for 28 February 2025, has been extended to 20 March 2025 to accommodate all beneficiaries and ensure a smooth transition.
Why Are SASSA Beneficiaries Required to Switch to Postbank Black Cards?
The Postbank Black Card replacement is part of a broader modernisation and security upgrade by Postbank, aimed at preventing:
• Card cloning and fraud
• Unverified withdrawals
• System failures that have previously disrupted payments
Postbank has assured that the new Black Cards are more secure and reliable than the older SASSA Gold Cards.
“Social grant beneficiaries must switch to the new Postbank Black Cards before the deadline to avoid payment disruptions,” Cabinet said in a statement.
Where Can Beneficiaries Collect Their New Postbank Black Cards?
Beneficiaries can visit designated Postbank sites at major retailers nationwide, including:
✅ Shoprite
✅ Checkers
✅ Usave
✅ Pick n Pay
✅ Boxer
Additional support teams have been deployed to assist with the replacement process at these locations.
📌 For assistance, beneficiaries can call:
• Postbank: 📞 0800 53 54 55
• SASSA: 📞 0800 60 10 11
What Happens After 20 March 2025?
If beneficiaries fail to switch to the new Postbank Black Card before the deadline:
🚫 SASSA Gold Cards will no longer function at ATMs and retail stores.
🚫 Grant payments will not be processed through expired Gold Cards.
To avoid disruptions, beneficiaries are strongly advised to collect their new Black Cards as soon as possible.
How to Find the Nearest Postbank Collection Point
Postbank has introduced a USSD code for beneficiaries to locate the closest collection site from their mobile phones:
📱 Dial: 120218*3#
📍 Reply with: 1 (to continue)
🌍 Select your province: Reply with the corresponding number
This service eliminates the need for beneficiaries to travel long distances in search of collection
