On Thursday night, an altercation at Solo restaurant in Sandton resulted in the deaths of businessman Sphamandla Mabonga and his two bodyguards, with four others injured.
The incident began when Mabonga attempted to enter the restaurant with armed bodyguards, violating the establishment’s no-firearms policy. An altercation ensued, leading to a shootout.
National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola confirmed that Mabonga had been out on bail for previous attempted murder charges related to similar incidents.
Tributes have been pouring in for Mabonga, known for his business ventures and past relationship with reality TV star Londie London.
The investigation is ongoing, with authorities reviewing security footage and eyewitness accounts. The incident has raised concerns about safety in upscale Johannesburg areas.
