Buffalo City, 20 November 2024 – Chippa United FC has officially announced that the Buffalo City Stadium is poised to host top-tier football matches, including a much-anticipated fixture against Orlando Pirates in 2025. This comes after the stadium recently underwent significant upgrades, including the installation of a new drainage system that has elevated it to meet Premier Soccer League (PSL) standards.
Comprehensive Upgrades Elevate Stadium
The renovations at Buffalo City Stadium, which were inspected and approved by the PSL, represent a transformative leap for sports facilities in the Eastern Cape. Prof. Schloss, alongside a representative from Chippa United and members of the Stadium Management Group staff, confirmed the successful completion of the upgrades during a recent visit.
“The facility now boasts a state-of-the-art drainage system, improved seating, and enhanced amenities that collectively set a new benchmark for football venues in the region,” said Prof. Schloss. These improvements not only enhance the spectator experience but also ensure that the stadium meets the rigorous demands of hosting national and international football matches.

Chippa United’s Upcoming Home Fixtures
Chippa United is set to benefit immediately from the upgrades, with several key matches scheduled at the stadium:
• 26th November: Chippa United FC vs SuperSport FC at NMB Stadium
• 30th November: Chippa United FC vs Magesi FC at BCM Stadium
• 14th December: Chippa United FC vs Cape Town City FC at BCM Stadium
• 29th December: Chippa United FC vs Kaizer Chiefs FC at Moses Mabhida Stadium
Additionally, a rescheduled match against Sundowns FC is awaiting confirmation on the date and venue.
Anticipation for Chippa vs Orlando Pirates
One of the highlights for the 2025 season will undoubtedly be the hosting of the Orlando Pirates at Buffalo City Stadium. This fixture is expected to draw significant attention from fans and media alike, spotlighting the stadium’s new capabilities and its impact on the local economy.
“Hosting a high-profile match such as Chippa United vs Orlando Pirates is not just a game; it’s an event that will inject vitality into Buffalo City, promoting local businesses and showcasing our rich football culture to a broader audience,” said a Chippa United spokesperson.
Pursuing CAF Certification
Looking forward, Buffalo City Stadium is also in the process of securing Confederation of African Football (CAF) certification. Achieving this would allow the stadium to host matches involving teams from neighboring countries, further establishing its status as a premier sports venue in Africa.
“The CAF certification is crucial for us to host international fixtures and will be a proud moment for everyone associated with the stadium,” the spokesperson added.
