Free State police have found a body of the missing social worker Nombulelo Jessica Michael at the Damwall of the Kalkfontein dam.

Her body was found on 11 December 2023 in shallow water on the other side of the Damwall from where her vehicle was found.

This comes after a 28-year-old woman was reported missing on 6 December 2023 at about 15:30.

Her vehicle was found at the Kalkfontein Damwall with no traces of the victim.

Nothing was missing from the vehicle with her cellphone and purse still inside.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Motantsi Makhele said members of the SAPS are investigating an Inquest docket after the body of the missing social worker of Koffiefontein was found.

“It is alleged by colleagues at Social Development that she did not report for work on 6 December 2023.

“She was last seen at the office at about 15:00 on 5 December 2023. They became suspicious when she did not respond to their calls. On further enquires it was established that she dropped off her baby at her mother’s place but did not return to pick her up after work. She was seen driving alone in the direction of the dam,” said Makhele.

At this stage police do not suspect any foul play in the death of a Michael and the investigation continues.

A postmodern will be done on her body.

The Department of Social Development spokesperson, Thembile Nqabeni said Michael had reported for duty on 5 December.

“Michael attended a gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF) case in court the last day she was seen alive, at about 11:00. She did not report for work the next day, on 6 December, according to information received from her colleagues.”
