Blue light gang: Three fatally shot during a shootout with multidisciplinary team, blue lights and two firearms recovered
The Police Spokesperson Brigadier Brenda Muridili has reported a breakthrough in the fight against blue light robberies, with the fatal shooting of three suspects during a shootout with a multidisciplinary team. The team had been alerted to a gang allegedly operating on the N3 between Villiers and Heidelberg, using a white Toyota Hilux fitted with blue lights.

Following a high-speed chase from N3 highway, Grootvlei in Mpumalanga to Zonkizizwe, Ekurhuleni, the suspects opened fire on the team before three of them were fatally shot. A fourth suspect managed to flee the scene.
Upon searching the suspects’ vehicle, the police recovered two unlicensed firearms and ammunition, as well as the blue lights used in their criminal activities. This operation was the result of collaboration between various law enforcement agencies, including SAPS National Head Office Counter Intelligence, Secunda Crime Intelligence, and the Gauteng Tactical Response Team.
Furthermore, the Crime Scene Management team meticulously combed the area for additional evidence, and the seized vehicle was taken to the Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit for further analysis.
Brigadier Muridili praised the teamwork and swift action taken by the multidisciplinary team, which also included the Gauteng Anti-Gang Unit, DPC Tracking Team, Johannesburg K9, CAP Specialised Operations, Tracker Connect, ICB Insurance Crime Bureau, MZ Werke Security, and Telesure Insurance Investigation.
