Former U.S. President Bill
By Thabo Mosia
Former U.S. President Bill Clinton, aged 78, was admitted to MedStar Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C., on Monday after developing a fever. His deputy chief of staff, Angel Ureña, announced on social media platform X that Clinton is undergoing testing and observation but remains in good spirits.
Clinton’s hospitalization is not considered an emergency, and he is expected to be home for Christmas. This incident adds to a series of health challenges he has faced over the years.
In 2004, at the age of 58, Clinton underwent a quadruple bypass surgery after doctors detected signs of extensive heart disease. The following year, he had surgery for a partially collapsed lung. In 2010, he had two coronary stents implanted after experiencing chest pains. These health scares prompted him to adopt a largely vegan diet, leading to significant weight loss and improved health.
In October 2021, Clinton was hospitalized for six days due to a urological infection that spread to his bloodstream, though he avoided septic shock. In November 2022, he tested positive for COVID-19, experiencing mild symptoms, and expressed gratitude for being vaccinated and boosted.
Despite these health challenges, Clinton has remained active in public life. He recently addressed the Democratic National Convention in Chicago and campaigned for Vice President Kamala Harris’s presidential bid. Observers noted his older appearance and hoarse voice during his speech, sparking some concern about his health.
Clinton, who served as the 42nd President of the United States from 1993 to 2001, is the second-youngest living former U.S. president, after Barack Obama. He has been involved in various diplomatic and humanitarian efforts through the Clinton Foundation, focusing on global health initiatives, economic development, and climate change.
As of now, there is no further information regarding Clinton’s current condition. Updates are expected as he undergoes medical evaluation. The former president’s resilience in the face of health challenges continues to be a testament to his commitment to public service and personal well-being.
