As the highly anticipated 2024/25 Betway Premiership season kicks off this weekend, several key players and a coach will miss the opening matches due to suspensions confirmed by the Premier Soccer League (PSL). Among those impacted are Thatayaone Ditlhokwe of Kaizer Chiefs, Lindokhule Mtshali from Sekhukhune United, Macbeth Mahlangu of TS Galaxy, and SuperSport United’s head coach, Gavin Hunt. These suspensions are expected to have a significant impact on their respective teams as they start their campaigns.
Suspensions and Key Players Out
Kaizer Chiefs will be without their Botswana international defender, Thatayaone Ditlhokwe, who picked up his fourth yellow card during the last match of the 2023/24 season against Cape Town Spurs. This suspension will see him miss the opening fixture against Marumo Gallants at the Toyota Free State Stadium on 14 September .
For TS Galaxy, centre-back Macbeth Mahlangu will sit out the match against Richards Bay FC after receiving a red card during the MTN8 quarterfinals. This will be a blow to the team’s defensive structure .
Meanwhile, Sekhukhune United’s Lindokhule Mtshali, who was red-carded in the previous season while playing for Moroka Swallows, will miss his team’s match against Magesi FC .
Gavin Hunt Suspended for the Tshwane Derby
In one of the biggest fixtures of the opening week, SuperSport United will face off against defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns in the Tshwane Derby. However, they will do so without head coach Gavin Hunt, who was sent off during his team’s MTN8 defeat against Orlando Pirates last month. Assistant coach Andre Arendse is expected to step in as SuperSport United aim to secure vital points early in the season .
