Bafana Bafana draws 2-2 against Liberia in AFCON Qualifiers

Bafana Bafana were held to a disappointing 2-2 draw by Liberia in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier played at Orlando Stadium on Friday night (24 March 2023).
Coach Hugo Broos’ charges should have won this match by a comfortable margin after creating a host of chances but failing to covert them.

Lyle Foster put the home side in the lead when he converted from the penalty spot in the 11th minute. Percy Tau was brought down inside the area and Foster beat Liberia goalkeeper Tommy Songo’s with a well-taken strike.

Foster returned to haunt Songo’s a few minutes later when he increased the lead with a powerful header in the 22nd minute from a corner kick.

The visitors pulled one back in the second half when Tonia Tisdell beat Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Ronwen Williams in the 67th minute.

Liberia completed their comeback when Mohammed Sangare scored the equalizer in the referee’s optional time.
The two teams meet again on Tuesday when the West Africans host the South Africans in Monrovia.
