Ba2cada
By Lerato Mpembe
Lesedi FM presenter Ba2cada has urged Tshepe (Sotho Hip Hop) artists to submit their music to the radio station to breathe new life into the genre. Taking to Facebook today, the popular breakfast show host expressed concern over a noticeable drop in the quality and interest surrounding Tshepe music, a decline he links to his recent shift in focus towards soccer commitments.
Ba2cada, whose real name is Nyakallo Leine, co-hosts the breakfast show alongside Twasa on Lesedi FM, a station known for its wide reach and dedication to promoting local talent. In his post, he shared his renewed commitment to supporting Tshepe artists across South Africa. “I have realised a huge decline of interest and quality Tshepe Hip Hop artists and music ever since I focused on my soccer commitments,” he wrote. “I have decided to focus again in assisting Tshepe artists, especially in SA to bring that interest and excitement back again.”
Clear Guidelines for Submission
The presenter laid out specific instructions for artists eager to get their music on air. He directed them to send their tracks to the station’s music compiler at music@lesedifm.co.za, stressing that submissions should be high-quality, well-mastered, and free of vulgar content. “Please submit your music at Lesedi FM, not to me…. Submit quality and well mastered music, that has no vulgar to our compiler at music@lesedifm.co.za,” Ba2cada emphasized. He also urged artists to include all song details and ensure their music is registered, adding, “No music should be sent to me direct.”
A Focus on Free State and Gauteng Talent
Ba2cada’s call to action zeroes in on Tshepe artists from the Free State and Gauteng, regions he believes hold immense potential. “Let’s assist those Tshepe artists, especially in FS & Gauteng, bring those hits so that we help create superstars,” he said. His goal is clear: to unearth hit songs that could propel local talent to stardom, revitalizing the genre in the process.
The Bigger Picture
Lesedi FM, broadcasting in Sesotho, enjoys a strong following across South Africa, making it a powerful platform for emerging artists. Tshepe, which fuses Hip Hop beats with Sotho language and cultural flair, has carved out a niche in the local music scene. Yet, Ba2cada’s comments suggest the genre has yet to reach its full potential. This initiative aligns with a broader wave of South African music gaining global traction, with genres like Amapiano leading the charge.
Tshepe could be next, provided artists step up with top-notch submissions.
Ba2cada’s dual role as a radio personality and a passionate music advocate adds weight to his plea. Known for his engaging on-air presence, he’s now leveraging his influence to spotlight Tshepe talent. His pivot back to music from soccer reflects a personal mission to nurture the industry that shaped him.
How Artists Can Get Involved
For Tshepe artists, this is a golden opportunity. Submissions must meet the station’s standards—think polished tracks that showcase skill and creativity, minus any offensive lyrics. By following Ba2cada’s guidelines and sending their best work to music@lesedifm.co.za, artists could see their music reach thousands of listeners, a stepping stone to bigger stages.
