With over a million motor vehicle licenses set to expire in September, it is vital for owners to stay informed and take the necessary steps to ensure compliance with renewal dates.
RTMC Urges young people to be cautious on the road
The extensions granted during the COVID-19 period have resulted in a significant number of renewals falling within the months of August, September, October, November, and December. Specifically, this September, a staggering total of 1,049,412 motor vehicle licenses are expiring, making it crucial for owners to act promptly.
The good news is that there is a 21-day grace period after the expiry date, during which owners can renew without incurring additional costs. However, after this grace period, arrears and penalties for late renewal will be imposed, placing unnecessary financial strain on vehicle owners.
To assist in promoting timely renewals, the RTMC is actively sending out email and SMS reminders to owners whose motor vehicle licenses are set to expire each month.
It is highly recommended for all vehicle owners to update their email and telephone contact details at online.natis.gov.za to ensure they receive these valuable reminders.
In addition to the reminders, the RTMC has implemented a convenient and efficient online renewal portal. By registering their profiles in five simple steps at online.natis.gov.za, vehicle owners can take full advantage of this user-friendly platform.
Once registered, owners can renew their licenses, make necessary payments, and have their new motor vehicle licenses delivered directly to their doorstep within three to five days via courier service.
To further streamline the process and eliminate the need for physical queuing and time wasted, the RTMC is sending email reminders with MVL1 forms to vehicle owners.
By filling out these forms online and completing all necessary payments from the comfort of home, owners can benefit from this cost-effective method of renewal. It is worth noting that the entire renewal process, from registration to finalizing the renewal, can be completed in less than ten minutes for those who have already registered.
