By Thys Khiba – On Wednesday, 11 January 2023, the Stilfontein Magistrates’ Court convicted Pule Matolo (40) and Andrew Lehokoa (34) on housebreaking with the intent to steal and theft committed at Nozizwe Primary School in Khuma.
The two are each sentenced to 8 years imprisonment.
The sentencing comes after the Matolo and Lehokoa were arrested and appeared in court for a case of business burglary which occurred at the Nozizwe Primary School in Khuma, near Stilfontein in January 2021.
A number of school computers, 13 monitors and 5 CPU’s were stolen and later recovered with the assistance of police officials and the Khuma Community Police Forum (CPF).
The Nozizwe Principal, Mthimkhulu Mafongosi has commended the justice system for the judgement and sentences that they have handed down.
Mafongosi said this will be a lesson to those who are involved in such acts of criminality.
“We say this must be a lesson to those who are involved in such acts of criminality. They deserve it because they have denied our learners an opportunity to advance their ICT skills.
As principal, SMT and SGB of Nozizwe, we send our gratitude to the CPF, specifically Mr Thembile Botman together with the police for making sure that the culprits were apprehended,” said Mafongosi.
Mafongosi has also indicated before that this is not the first incident of stolen computers which took place at their school premises.
“This is something that destroy the future of our children, because they fail an opportunity to be exposed to these things as they can’t find a chance to use them.”
