North West Police have nabbed numerous suspects implicated in a chain of crimes raging across the Bojanala Platinum and Ngaka Modiri Molema districts in an intensive multi-day operation.

The crackdown, spanning from Wednesday, 20th March, to the early morning hours of Friday, 22nd March 2024, has dealt a significant blow to local crime networks, with arrests for a host of offences including business robbery, motor vehicle theft, possession of drugs and illegal firearms.

Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone, police spokesperson, detailed accounts of the incidents to the press. “On Wednesday, 20th March 2024, in Lichtenburg, a distressing business robbery occurred when four armed assailants looted a store’s cash reserve before making their getaway in a grey Volkswagen Polo,” said Brigadier Mokgwabone. However, their freedom was short-lived. Instances of astute Policing and investigation, with help from an Administration Clerk, directed officers to a residence in Boikhutso Location. The operation culminated in the apprehension of Sibusiso Mahuza, 25, and Kholisile Manyathela, 46. A stash of a firearm, imitation gun, ammunition and items presumed stolen were discovered during the search. The suspects, having been before the court, are held on remand until a bail plea on Tuesday, 2nd April 2024.

Further efforts in Mahikeng saw K9 Unit officers detain a duo, aged 33 and 28, for drug possession. The arrests occurred respectively at Bradford Park Taxi Rank and Proctor Avenue in Golfview, with one individual caught holding a packet of nyaope, whilst their counterpart harboured 172 rock drugs. The caches are alleged to amount to R7000-00.

A distinct episode in Mahikeng led to a 25-year-old’s capture for shoplifting a trio of caps with a combined value of R1 400.00 from a clothing establishment on Station Road.

Additionally, in Lomanyaneng’s Setlopo-Utlwanang village, a Nissan 1400 bakkie, linked to a theft reported at the Mahikeng police station on the preceding Saturday, was recovered leading to yet another apprehension. The implicated parties are scheduled for a court appearance at the Molopo Magistrates’ Court in Mmabatho on Monday, 25th March 2024.

In a late-night raid in Boitekong, teamwork from Rustenburg Flying Squad and Phokeng K9 Unit led to the arrest of a 30-year-old woman implicated in the illicit drug trade. The detention resulted from actionable intelligence about suspect dealings in Mosenthal village, just outside Rustenburg. Upon searching the premises, police found a variety of drugs, whose street value tallied up to R7 100.00. Legal proceedings for this suspect are arranged for the Bafokeng Magistrates’ Court in Tlhabane on Monday, 25th March 2024.
