Arrest
The police have recently made a significant breakthrough in a murder case involving a 49-year-old woman who is suspected of killing her relatives to benefit from insurance claims. The suspect was arrested in Centurion this morning during a collaborative operation between the South African Police Service (SAPS) and an insurance company.
Sergeant Keshi Mabunda and his team of detectives have been diligently working on this case for the past two months, following a tip-off from relatives of the suspect. Mabunda, known for his expertise in solving similar cases, was assigned to lead the investigation.
Through thorough analysis and evidence collection, including the exhumation of a body, the team was able to link the suspect to the initial focus of the case. The suspect will now face a murder charge in front of the Mmabatho Magistrate Court on Friday, 17 November 2023.
This murder, initially believed to be a ‘natural death,’ occurred in Mmabatho in the North West region in March 2023. Further investigations have revealed that the suspect fraudulently obtained insurance policies on behalf of her relatives prior to their deaths.
The investigation team is also looking into the deaths of the suspect’s son (July 2023), husband (2016), and two daughters (2015 and 2005), suspecting foul play in each case. The suspect is believed to have profited significantly from these criminal activities.
The SAPS would like to encourage insurance companies and families to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the Crime Stop number on 08600 10111 or their nearest police station. Alternatively, individuals can download the My SAPS App to submit tip-offs anonymously.
