Malemaville Formerly Known as Mooidraai | EFF Fezile Dabi Regional Chairperson April Motaung
By Thabo Mosia
The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Fezile Dabi Regional Chairperson, April Motaung, has lauded Malemaville, formerly known as Mooidraai, as a beacon of economic freedom and a model community in the Free State. Speaking on the fifth anniversary of Malemaville’s establishment in Metsimaholo, Motaung highlighted the achievements and challenges faced by this vibrant community.
Malemaville stands as a testament to the EFF’s principles and the pursuit of economic freedom. Motaung stated, “Malemaville is the home of the Economic Freedom Fighters and a beacon of hope for the dejected masses of our people.” The community’s development aligns with the EFF’s non-negotiable cardinal pillars aimed at redressing historical inequalities and ensuring economic justice.
Historical Context and Vision
South Africa’s history is marred by a deep-seated racial divide and economic inequality, dating back to the 1600s. The EFF has been vocal about these issues, emphasizing the need for systemic change. Motaung reiterated, “South Africa has a long and dreadful history of racial divide and inequality dating back to the 1600s when the land, dignity, and humanity were stripped away from Africans. South Africa is one of the most unequal societies in the world where the rich few have a monopoly over the economy and resources while the majority languishes in poverty.”
Achievements and Future Plans
Reflecting on the progress made in Malemaville, Motaung expressed gratitude to the community for their trust in the EFF. “We want to thank the people of Malemaville for entrusting the EFF with governing and leading them. As we celebrate the 5th Anniversary, we acknowledge that there is a lot of work that still needs to be done in Malemaville.”
The EFF has prioritized infrastructure development in Malemaville, including better roads, water and sanitation, and electrification. Motaung emphasized the importance of these basic rights, as outlined in Chapter 2 of the Constitution, and called for equal treatment for the people of Malemaville. “The people of Malemaville deserve a school, clinic, park, and Early-Childhood Development centres, and this is on top of the agenda for the EFF. The formalization of Malemaville as a settlement is a non-negotiable demand of the EFF.”
Challenges and Commitment
Despite the progress, Malemaville has faced challenges, including delays in development projects. Motaung pointed to possible deliberate sabotage by incumbents but reaffirmed the EFF’s commitment to the community. “The EFF was extremely proud of the development of Malemaville when the site establishment and construction of an internal sewer infrastructure network was approved. There has however been a stagnation which can be viewed as deliberate sabotage by the incumbent. As the EFF, we will continue to champion the plight of the dejected masses of our people.”
