Nomsa Marchesi DA Member of Parliament
Nomsa Marchesi, a prominent figure in the Democratic Alliance (DA), has announced her resignation from the party and her role as a Member of Parliament. Marchesi has made the decision to join #RiseMzansi as the new Free State Convenor, effective immediately.
Marchesi, who has been a member of the National Assembly since 2014 and previously served as a Whip in the Shadow Cabinet under Mmusi Maimane, released a statement explaining her reasons for leaving the DA.
“After much reflection and consultation, and my unwavering commitment to the principles of freedom, social justice, and equality, I have decided to resign from the Democratic Alliance and Parliament,” she stated.
Over the past decade, Marchesi has served as a dedicated Member of Parliament, contributing to various portfolios, including Education, ranging from basic to higher education. Additionally, she has served as a member of the Police and as a Whip. Her passion for justice and economic empowerment, especially for women, initially drew her to join the DA, with hopes of initiating change and reforms in South Africa. However, Marchesi now expresses disappointment in the party’s failure to bridge the trust deficit with the majority of South Africans and effectively represent diverse concerns within the nation.

In her quest to find a political platform that is more inclusive and representative of the diverse voices and concerns of the South African population, Marchesi discovered #RiseMzansi.
She describes it as a vibrant political alternative that aligns with her vision for a better South Africa and has the potential to engage with all sectors of society. With great enthusiasm, she has made the decision to join #RiseMzansi and embarks on a new chapter in her political career.
#RiseMzansi stands for inclusivity, prioritizing the needs of the people and communities, and upholding social democratic values and the South African constitution’s principles of justice, freedom, equality, solidarity, and integrity.
Marchesi recognizes the party’s potential for positive change within the political sphere and eagerly embraces the opportunity to contribute to building a safe, prosperous, equal, and united South Africa.
Marchesi acknowledges that her decision to leave the DA was not made lightly and expresses gratitude for her years of service within the party and her colleagues whom she had the privilege of working alongside. She wishes them well in their future endeavors.
