The Edgar Legoale Foundation has officially appointed Angel Thekiso, popularly known as “Pink Grapes,” as the lead soccer commentator for all upcoming Edgar Legoale Tournaments. This announcement marks a significant step in promoting women in South African sports media, as Thekiso brings her extensive experience and energetic style to the Foundation’s events.

A well-respected figure in sports broadcasting, Thekiso’s dynamic presence is set to enhance the fan experience across the Foundation’s tournaments. Originally from Parys in the Free State, Angel Thekiso’s new role aligns with the Edgar Legoale Foundation’s commitment to inclusivity and diversity in sports.

Thekiso, who has a background in TV and radio production from PASMedia Academy, has built a remarkable career in the sports media industry. She is the founder and CEO of Angel Vision Media, a company dedicated to producing sports-related content and amplifying diverse voices in the industry. Her role as a sports presenter on CUT FM 105.8 in Bloemfontein, where she hosts the popular show Cutting Sports, has further cemented her reputation as a trusted voice in South African sports media. In her new position, Thekiso will replace Mzwandile Sontyale, also known as Dj Pots, who recently took on the role of Tournament Manager for the Edgar Legoale Foundation.

A Diverse and Accomplished Background in Sports Media

Angel Thekiso’s journey in the sports media industry has been nothing short of impressive. She has covered some of South Africa’s most significant sporting events, including the 2nd Betway ODI at Mangaung Oval between South Africa and Australia, the Springboks’ Test match against Portugal in Bloemfontein, and the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers match between Bafana Bafana and Zimbabwe. Her expertise extends beyond commentary; she has worked as a sports journalist, broadcaster, producer, and master of ceremonies (MC) at various prestigious events.

In 2024, Thekiso expanded her experience by making her live TV commentary debut on SuperSport, partnering with SuperSportBet for the Toyota Cup match. Her versatility and skill have made her a familiar voice in South African sports, and her contributions continue to elevate the standard of sports broadcasting in the country. As a commentator, broadcaster, and producer, Thekiso brings a comprehensive skill set that is sure to enrich the Edgar Legoale Tournaments.

Championing Women in Sports Media

The Edgar Legoale Foundation’s decision to appoint Thekiso highlights the organisation’s commitment to supporting women in sports. Edgar Legoale, the Foundation’s chairperson, expressed his enthusiasm about her appointment, stating, “We are thrilled to welcome Angel ‘Pink Grapes’ Thekiso to our commentary team. Her experience and energy align with our vision for the Edgar Legoale Tournaments, and we are proud to see our Tournament Manager making positive changes that prioritise women’s involvement in our events.” This appointment not only advances Thekiso’s career but also sets a precedent for the inclusion of women in prominent roles within sports media.

Thekiso’s influence as a female commentator is particularly significant in a field historically dominated by male voices. Her journey inspires aspiring young women, showing that it is possible to succeed and excel in sports media. Dj Pots, the newly appointed Tournament Manager, remarked on the importance of her role, saying, “Appointing Angel as our commentator is a step forward in creating a more inclusive environment within our tournaments. Her insights and expertise will not only elevate our coverage but will also inspire aspiring female commentators across the country.”

A Versatile Voice and Media Innovator

In addition to her commentary roles, Angel Thekiso has collaborated with major brands, including MTN, RedBull, SuperSportBet, SuperPicks, gsport4girls, and Betway, as well as organisations such as SAFA and Sasol. Her brand associations demonstrate her widespread appeal and the trust that prominent brands place in her ability to represent their values. As a brand ambassador for TeamzDynamics and a dedicated advocate for women in sports, Thekiso is using her platform to bring more visibility to women’s sports and encourage gender diversity in the industry.

Thekiso’s entrepreneurial spirit led her to establish Angel Vision Media, a media company that aims to provide quality sports content and amplify underrepresented voices in sports media. Through her company, she has covered events such as the Lemo Fest and other sports-related activities, furthering her influence and reach within the South African sports community.

Expanding Her Reach Through High-Profile Engagements

As a versatile media personality, Thekiso’s experience extends to high-profile engagements with notable figures in the sports world. She has conducted interviews with sports legends like Dr Khumalo, Lucas Radebe, Josta Dladla, Fabian McCarthy, Hlompho Kekana, Mamello Makhabane, and Kaylin Swart. These interactions showcase her ability to connect with prominent figures, bringing fans closer to the sports icons they admire.

Her role as the host of Cutting Sports on CUT FM has allowed her to discuss sports news, analyse games, and engage with a wide audience, reinforcing her position as an influential sports journalist. Her skill in delivering compelling content has contributed to her growing popularity and established her as a respected figure in South African sports media.
