Johannesburg- In an ongoing clash between the ANC Youth League (ANCYL) and Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan, the league’s secretary-general, Mntuwoxolo Ngudle, has declared that they will “never” apologize to Gordhan.
The controversy stems from ANCYL President Collen Malatji’s criticism of Gordhan for allegedly planning to sell state-owned companies. In response, Gordhan has demanded a public apology from Malatji for his “thoughtless” statement.
Malatji has defiantly expressed that the ANCYL is not afraid of Gordhan, stating, “We are told he is feared. We don’t fear him.” This response has only deepened the divide between the two parties.
Ngudle, speaking to News24, explained that the league believes Gordhan wants them to abandon their political views on strengthening state-owned enterprises. He firmly stated, “No, we will never apologize.
The ANC Youth League will never apologize for its views around state-owned entities. It is our position as a structure, and we are saying there must be no sale of state-owned entities.”
Gordhan, on the other hand, has taken these attacks as an opportunity to emphasize the need for ongoing reform of State-Owned Companies (SOCs).
He points out that the continuous spread of misinformation is evidence of a coordinated campaign driven by individuals with vested interests who prioritize personal gain over the nation’s well-being.
Despite the clash, Gordhan remains committed to revitalizing SOCs, combating corruption, and ensuring that they fulfill their role in the transformation and development of the South African economy.
He has declared his intention to meet with the ANC Youth League soon to address these conflicts.
Gordhan concludes by expressing his unwavering determination to fulfill his mandate, regardless of the challenges.
He confidently states, “Our primary focus is to fulfill our mandate and ensure that SOCs achieve crucial national strategic objectives, even against all odds.” With this mindset, he firmly believes that the ongoing campaign against him will ultimately fail.
