In a letter addressed to the ANC Secretary General, Fikile Mbalula, members of the ANC Youth League (ANCYL) in Sedibeng have expressed their dissatisfaction with the National Youth Task Team (NYTT).

In their letter, the concerned members raised issues regarding the NYTT (National Youth Task Team), particularly focusing on the parallel structures and the audit process. They expressed their frustration at the lack of response from the structures and committees they had reached out to previously. The members said, Instead of addressing the matter, they were invited to a hearing that was later postponed indefinitely without any explanation.

The members highlighted that other regions in Gauteng, such as Ekurhuleni and Westrand, had managed to resolve similar challenges, with the findings being made public by the Provincial Congress Preparatory Committee. They believed that the findings in the ANCYL Westrand case were correct and applicable to their situation in Sedibeng.

Additionally, the members disputed and appealed the letter from the NYTT Coordinator, stating that it was misinformed, administratively unjust, and disregarded the constitutional prescripts of both the ANCYL and the ANC NYTT Guidelines. They argued that it perpetuated factionalism, ill-discipline, and confusion, providing little to no evidence to support its claims.

The Eastern Cape had also raised similar concerns, leading to Fikile Mbalula’s intervention and subsequent reversal of the Provincial Congress convened over the weekend.

Mbalula Stated “It was clear from the reports presented, and the discussion that followed, that the planned ANCYL Eastern Cape Provincial Congress had not been duly and properly authorized in that, amongst others:

(1)

There was no recorded decision by the ANCYL NWTT to amend the ANCYL National Congress Roadmap and authorize the holding of the Provincial Congress; and,

(2)

There was no evidence that the required audits had been done, or that the requisite Verification Reports had been issued.”

Mbalula has distanced himself from the provincial Congress of the #ANCYL in Eastern Cape. Mbalula says he never gave any authorisation for congress to proceed. As a result, the conference, which was led by the league’s national convenor Xola Nqola, is not recognized.

“This behaviour is unacceptable and amounts to gross ill-discipline and defiance. This leaves the SGO with no option but to take the necessary corrective measures”.

With the national conference scheduled to take place this weekend, the members in Sedibeng are hoping for a fair resolution to their grievances.
