By Thys Khiba: The ANC Youth League (ANCYL) in Fezile Dabi region has called on the newly elected African National Congress (ANC) Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) to retain Dr Tate Makgoe as MEC for education in the Free State province.
“He is quality and we wish to see him as the retaining MEC, as we also wish the President can consider to appoint as the Minister of Basic Education,” said ANCYL Regional Chairperson Edgar Legoale.
The calls after the province managed to achieve an 88,5% matric pass rate in the 2022 academic year, retaining the top spot among the nine provinces.
The pass rate is an improvement on the 2021 pass rate of 85,7%, as well as the 2020 pass rate of 85,1%.
The province continues as the best performing province in the National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations for at least the fourth consecutive year.
Defending their view, the youth league indicated that their call on PEC to keep Makgoe as the MEC is based on his“exceptional” performance.
“We wish to call on the ANC PEC to consider the co-option of comrade Tate Makgoe as he has been working hard and exceptionally in delivering the best Matric results and bringing stability in our public schools in the province and very principle with good track record of not being tainted by corruption allegations like many we have seen in the province,” said ANCYL Regional Spokesperson Babiky De Wet.
The league sent their message of congratulatory to the newly elected provincial structure of the ANC in the province.
“We wish to send our unwavering congratulatory message to all the comrades who emerged from the Top 5 which led by Chairperson Mxolosi Dukwana, Deputy Chairperson Toto Makume, Provincial Secretary Polediso Motsoeneng, Deputy Provincial Secretary Dibolelo Mahlatsi, Provincial Treasurer Mathabo Leeto, their collective of the inclusive PEC Additionalsbut mostly the young people who made it in the PEC comrade Zama Zigwebela, Olga Seate, Mzwandile Thakhudi…”
The league has viewed the election of Toto Makume as the provincial deputy chairperson as a sign to the province and country that Fezile Dabi Region has not ran out of leadership.
The Fezile Dabi region is home to the former ANC Secretary General Ace Magashule.
