This comes after a three-year-old boy, Keletso Saule was mauled to death by two pitbulls in Henneman, Matjhabeng Municipality on Sunday.

“The ANCYL of Lejweleputswa further reiterates the clarion call to ban these inhumane animals in our society. These unfortunate events are a clear indication that these breeds are not meant to live with humans in our communities,” said ANCYL regional spokesperson Ayanda Madona.

The league has called on law enforcement agencies to ‘take up their space on owners of these breeds,’ who in their own opinion beleive that they are not bothered by the harms caused by these dogs. “…but are only concerned with popularity contest of who owns the most dangerous/aggressive dog.”

Madona said they will engage in programs and campaigns which will accelerate and speaks about the removal of these dogs in communities.

“We will further work with branches of the ANCYL to compile a register of households that needs to be attended. The ANCYL will further engage the SPCA on the legislative implications in so far as these processes are concerned.”

At least 49 pitbulls have been surrendered to various SPCA centres in the Free State following Olebogeng Mosime’s attack.

The league sent a message of condolences to the affected family and community of Phomolong.

The Executive Mayor of Matjhabeng Municipality, Cllr Thanduxolo Khalipa has visited the family of Saule and community of Phomolong in Ward 3.

“The Executive Mayor visited the bereaved family to pay homage. He expressed his condolences to the family and committed support with funeral arrangements of the late Koketso. He further registered his worries about ownership of Pitbulls in the communities of Matjhabeng, and calls for tight by-laws which will ensure safety of our people from these monsters.”
