By Thys Khiba – The ANC Women’s League (ANCWL) regional task team (RTT) in FezileDabi region said that they find the reports of a woman who was killed by a police officer at Sasolburg Police Station disturbing.
“We find it disturbing that a woman can be brutally killed in the premises where she should find refuge in all places in this country, women are subject to Gender Based Violence (GBV) in all corners of this country however the police station should be the last place whereby a woman must lose her life,” said RTT Convener, Matsholo Mmolotsane.
This comes after police official shot his 33-year-old life partner and allegedly turn the gun on himself on Sunday, 05 February 2023 at the Sasolburg Police Station in Sasolburg, MetsimaholoLocal Municipality.
It is allegedly that the 38-year-old officer shot his life partner Mmemalerato Mofokeng four times.
The official was found with a gunshot wound in the head and his service pistol next to him. Both victims were declared dead on the scene.
Free State Police Spokesperson Brigadier Motantsi Makheleindicated that a case of murder and an inquest were opened.
“We can confirm that an incident took place on Sunday 05 February 2023 at the Sasolburg Police Station.
It is alleged that the sergeant attached to Sasolburg visible policing and his life partner came to the police barracks next to the police station, where the police official is staying,” said Makhele.
Free State police commissioner, Lieutenant General BaileMotswenyane, called on officers to make use of support structures like Employee Health and Welness to resolve their domestic issues.
