In a media briefing on Tuesday, conducted by Maropene Ramokgopa, the task team national coordinator, it was stated that the conference has now been rescheduled to 21st-23rd July, allowing an extra week for the resolution of any pending matters to maintain the credibility and integrity of the conference.
“Communication will be carried out with all branches with unresolved issues through official and organisational channels,” said Ramokgopa.
Recall that the league was disbanded last year due to failure in holding its conference under the leadership of Bathabile Dlamini. A new roadmap was adopted and the preparatory committee for the national conference has since been meeting regularly. Issues related to the verification of branches, delegation approvals, electoral commission works, finance, security, and conference logistics have been reviewed and discussed.
The decision to postpone the conference came about following a productive meeting with the ANC Secretary General, Fikile Mbalula. “Postponing by a week will ensure all necessary measures are undertaken to uphold the credibility and integrity of the conference,” further clarified Ramokgopa.
Additionally, an assessment of the recently conducted pre-registration process from 7th to 9th July was undertaken. The process aimed to address and resolve any issues ahead of the formal registration at the conference. There were both successes and challenges observed during this pre-registration phase.
The ANCWL NTT expressed satisfaction with the smooth proceedings in the Western Cape, Eastern Cape, Limpopo, Free State, and Gauteng. “Unfortunately, provinces like KwaZulu-Natal and the Eastern Cape faced challenges that demand further attention,” observed Ramokgopa.
Despite these obstacles, the ANCWL NTT remains optimistic about the potential for improvement. “There is room for improvement in the registration process in all provinces. We are resolved to give greater focus on the dispute resolution and appeals process, ensuring full attention to matters raised by our branches, regions, and provinces. More time is needed to resolve identified issues critical to the successful convening of the conference,” said Ramokgopa.
The ANCWL NTT reaffirms its unwavering commitment to a genuine and successful 13th National Conference, reflecting the aspirations of every member in attendance.
