By Thys Khiba – The African National Congress (ANC) Chief Whip Pemmy Majodina indicated that the party will wait to hear the outcome of the ANC MP Sibusiso Kula’s bail application before considering any internal recourse.

“This is a very serious matter, especially in light of the party’s stance on GBV. But we must wait for the process to take its course before taking any actions [against him].”

This comes after Kula (34) was arrested on 20 January 2023 and appeared in the Orkney Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 23 January for allegedly killing his wife, Jennifer Mohlomi (31), at their home in Kanana, North West, in November 2022.

Kula is facing a murder charge following the death of his wife.

Police reports reveal that Kula’s wife was found murdered on 27 November 2022, in what seemed like a robbery.

The NPA spokesperson Henry Mamothame confirmed she [the wife] was found with a stab wound on her back but the object that was used for her alleged murder has not been recovered.

“The matter was reported by the accused who indicated that he was not at the house when the incident occurred,” said Mamothame.

Majodina told media the step-aside rule was very clear, but added that the party would only have clarity on their position on Friday.

The step-aside rule is an internal ANC policy, in which its members must step aside from party and government participation if they are charged with corruption or other serious crimes.

Majodina confirmed she had already drafted her arguments if he was denied bail.

Police investigations are still underway and Kula will remain in police custody until the next court appearance on 27 January 2023 for formal bail application.

Members of his political party, ANC were opposed to the granting of bail.

Outside of the court, the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) members carried placards, which said Kula, 34, should not be released.
