The African National Congress (ANC) in Mpumalanga has suspended its provincial treasurer, Mandla Msibi, who also holds the position of MEC for COGTA, due to allegations of misconduct. It is alleged that Msibi orchestrated a plan to undermine the January 8 celebrations at the Mbombela Stadium earlier this year by encouraging his supporters to boycott the event.
The party has handed down a three-year suspension to Mandla Msibi for breaching the ANC’s constitution, with two years of the sanction being suspended on the condition that he does not commit a similar offence within this period.

This disciplinary action follows threats from Msibi’s supporters, predominantly from a branch in Zone B in the Ehlanzeni region of Mbombela, who indicated a willingness to align with the breakaway uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party should Msibi face expulsion.
The controversy extends back to January when Msibi, along with Sibusiso Bhuda Mdluli and Mandla Mhlanga, were provisionally suspended post their demand for a meeting with President Cyril Ramaphosa in Pienaar on the day marked for the January 8 Statement celebration.
Muzi Chirwa, Provincial ANC Secretary, detailed the outcomes of the disciplinary proceedings, stating, “The membership of comrade Mandla Msibi is suspended for three years, and the operation of the two years is suspended on condition that he is not found guilty on a similar offence during the period of suspension.” Chirwa also clarified the positions on Mhlanga and Mdluli, noting the former’s clearance of all charges and the latter’s expulsion from the party.
The process, governed by Rule 25.21.7 of the ANC constitution as amended at the 55th national congress, underscores the party’s commitment to maintaining discipline and integrity within its ranks.
