ANC Provincial Chairperson in the North West, Nono Maloyi

By Thys Khiba  – The North West Provincial Legislature (NWPL) Speaker Sussana Dantjie has welcomed and announced the African National Congress (ANC) provincial chairperson Nono Maloyi as the new member of Provincial Legislature (MPL) on Tuesday, 08 November.

This follows the official resignation of the MPL Kim Medupe.

Maloyi publicly confirmed his loyalty and faithfulness to perform his duties as the new member of the North West provincial legislature.

“Hon. Maloyi was sworn in accordance with Section 107 of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, which states that before a Member of a Provincial Legislature (MPL) begins to perform their functions in the Legislature, they must be sworn in or affirm faithfulness to the Republic and obedience to the Constitution in accordance with Schedule 2.”

It is alleged that the ANC Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) in the province is planning a cabinet reshuffle.

Media reports confirmed that the provincial secretary Louis Diremelo has written to the legislature to amend the list of the party’s candidates. This move was made to indicate the appointments of new members of the executive committee (MECs).

Meanwhile, the announcement of Maloyi as the new MPL is seen as a way of replacing Bushy Maape as the premier of the province.

Amongst other party members who are expected to be sworn in as MPLs, Lazarus Mokgosi, Elizabeth Nokia and former Finance MEC Wendy Nelson’s names were mentioned.

“The African National Congress as guided by the provisions of item 21 of the Electoral Act 73 of 1998 [Schedule 1A] hereby review its undepleted lists as supplemented,” states the letter.
