By Thys Khiba -The African National Congress (ANC) in Limpopo is not impressed by the endorsement of the ANC President Cyril Ramophosa for second term bid, which was indicated by their premier and provincial chair Stan Mathabatha.

The provincial secretary of the ANC in Limpopo Soviet Lekganyane said Mathabatha’s assertions on January 8 were his “personal opinion” and “derogation of the ANC’s conference conventions.”

Lekganyane suggested that Mathabatha’s views were “avoidable” and “unnecessary” to be said at such an event.

“In the three years I have been provincial secretary we have not discussed the national conference. The pronouncements were avoidable,” said Lekganyane.

This comes after Mathabatha declared, as ANC Limpopo chair, that Limpopo province is in support of Ramaphosa getting a second term.

“As the principal spokesperson of the ANC in the province I can tell you now that the statement was not an official pronouncement of the ANC and must be treated as a personal opinion which was unnecessary to pronounce at such event an event,” said Lekganyane.

Lekganyane said they now have to explain unnecessary things and don’t want to keep on reminding each other of the conventions of their party.

Speaking to the Pretoria News, he continued to highlight that his party members in Limpopo had never talked about preferred candidates ahead of the party’s 55th national conference in December.

Lekganyane confirmed January 8 was supposed to have been used as a platform to build confidence within South Africans and bring about unity.
