ANC Limpopo Dismisses Trump’s Claims of White Discrimination Amid US Aid Suspension

ANC Limpopo Dismisses Trump

The African National Congress (ANC) in Limpopo has strongly rejected statements made by United States President Donald Trump, in which he accused the South African government of mistreating white citizens. The party dismissed the claims as inaccurate and misleading, stating that the executive order signed by Trump fails to provide a true reflection of the country’s land expropriation policies.

The ANC’s response came during the provincial January 8th Statement celebrations, held at Ephraim Mogale Stadium in Modimolle. The gathering, which saw ANC leaders arriving to loud cheers, provided a platform to reaffirm the party’s stance on land reform, while also acknowledging the need to improve service delivery in Limpopo.

ANC Rejects US “Bullying Tactics” on Land Expropriation

The event took place just days after the US government announced the suspension of funding to South Africa, citing concerns over the country’s land expropriation without compensation policies. The ANC, however, accused the US of attempting to bully South Africa into abandoning its land reform efforts.

ANC Limpopo Provincial Secretary, Reuben Madadzhe, made it clear that South Africa will not succumb to external pressure, stating:

“We are not going to be deterred from what is on the table and be bullied like the president has said to do things that are not in our national interest because we need to serve the master. But we are saying as the African National Congress, South Africa is a democratic country. The issue that there are other races that we are ill-treating them, it’s farfetched and is something that we don’t know. We are living with whites here.”

The ANC insists that its land expropriation policy is aimed at addressing historical injustices and is being carried out in a lawful and fair manner.

ANC to Support Families of Fallen Soldiers from Limpopo

During the celebrations, the ANC also acknowledged the sacrifices of South African National Defence Force (SANDF) soldiers deployed in conflict zones.

Madadzhe confirmed that the provincial government would be visiting the families of 10 soldiers from Limpopo, whose mortal remains are currently being repatriated from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

“Starting from next week, our government will be visiting the families again to just ascertain themselves as to what needs to be done to the families. But even ourselves as the African National Congress, we will be visiting the families so that we go comfort them during these trying times.”

The fallen soldiers were part of the SADC Mission in the DRC (SAMIDRC), a regional peacekeeping force aimed at stabilising the conflict-ridden eastern DRC.

Modimolle Residents Demand Jobs and Service Delivery

While the ANC in Limpopo celebrated its continued political dominance—having secured 73% of the vote in the 2024 elections—many residents of Modimolle used the event to highlight ongoing issues in their communities.

Unemployment remains a pressing concern, particularly among young people. Residents at the gathering voiced their frustrations, calling on the provincial ANC government to create job opportunities.

“We want jobs as young people because there are too many unemployed people here in Modimolle so we are looking for jobs. I want the ANC to create jobs, create learnerships for the youth.”

Infrastructure problems, particularly road conditions and access to water, were also raised. Some attendees called for urgent intervention to address deteriorating roads caused by heavy rainfall.

“Due to heavy rain, the roads have been washed away. So, we need assistance on the roads so that the roads can be managed. And also, water, we don’t have enough water.”

ANC’s Future in Limpopo Amid US-South Africa Tensions

Despite these challenges, the ANC remains the dominant political force in Limpopo, with strong grassroots support in rural and urban areas. However, rising economic pressures, service delivery failures, and international disputes—such as the current standoff with the US—could test the party’s ability to maintain its electoral grip in future elections.

The party’s handling of land reform, youth employment, and essential services will likely determine whether it can retain the trust of voters or face growing political opposition.
