Welkom – The African National Congress members in the Lejweleputswa region have expressed different views about the recent suspension of their national secretary general Ace Magashule.

According to the spokesperson for Lejweleputswa branches, Shima Mahlatsi, the members of the ANC Lejweleputswa Regional Task Team (RTT) from various branches have decided to choose ANC, over “an individual that is rogue, counter-revolutionary and corrupt.”

“We also wish to record our principled support for the suspension of the SG by the NWC that acted in accordance with Rule 13.8.1 of the ANC constitution, in enforcement of the decision of the NEC meeting of the 28th to 29th March, 2021, as well in compliance with Rule 25.70, which necessitates such a suspension; read with the adopted procedures and guidelines on the step aside resolution of the 54th Nasrec conference,” said Mahlatsi.

Mahlatsi says that the conduct of the suspended ANC SG Ace Magashule to suspend the ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa, is a manifestation of desperation, ‘roguery and counter-revolutionary mind-set’, that inspires the suspended SG and his ‘motley collection of cronies, to organize an implosion’ of the ANC.

“This rogue and counter-revolutionary conduct, is deserving of the harshest possible measures, in line with the relevant provisions of Rule 25 on Management of Organizational Discipline of the ANC.”

Mahlatsi has indicated that they support President Ramaphosa, in his capacity as their political head and chief directing Officer, as well as the NEC, on the step aside and related matters.

“In the same vein, we urge ALL members of the NEC and NWC, who continue to break ranks on this important issue of the renewal and re-engineering of the ANC, to resist the urge to be the wedge-driver with a poisonous tongue who in the words of OR Tambo, must instead act like ‘a revolutionary, who is distinguished and distinguishable, from an enemy agent’. This call goes in equal measure, to the suspended SG.”

Meanwhile, other members of the Lejweleputswa region held a meeting to announce their support for the ANC SG Magashule.

During that meeting, the Matjhabeng Executive Mayor and the chairperson of ANC Lejweleputswa region, Nkosinjani Speelman said that the ANC Nasrec resolutions shouldn’t be selective, but must be objective. Speelman has urged the ANC National Executive Committee to use their weekend meeting to reflect on their decision to suspend Magashule.

The Regional Co-ordinator of Lejweleputswa, Masentle Twala has also indicated they are ready to go into the Regional Conference as the ANC in Lejweleputswa region.

But some branches in the region have disagreed with her view about their readiness for their conference.

“We are firmly of the view that, the National Working Committee of the ANC, MUST immediately suspend all BBGMs in Lejweleputswa and indeed, the entire province, until the leadership vacuum at a provincial level and all related issues of compliance with branch biennial general meetings and regional conferences, have been transparently and thoroughly  dealt with. This includes whether, our region of Lejweleputswa, qualifies for a regional conference or not,” said Mahlatsi.
