By Thys Khiba – Disgruntled African National Congress (ANC) members in Free State have once again approached the High Court to have the embattled Interim Provincial Committee (IPC) disbanded.
“the ANC has unlawfully, unconstitutionally and or improperly abdicated, neglected, abandoned and/or disregarded their leadership and/or oversight responsibilities, in respect of the political rights of the members (of ANC branches) in the Free State province, including the applicants, pertaining to the process leading towards participation in the ANC regional, provincial and national elective conference,” reads court papers against the IPC.

Party official Ditaba Makhutle confirmed this is at least the third time the branches of the party took the IPC to court for failing to hold the provincial elective conference and their legal representatives have served the IPC structure with court papers.
Earlier this year, dissatisfied party members managed to force the ANC structure to compromise some of its powers.
This comes after the ANC was forced to disband MangaungInterim Regional Committee (IRC). It has been reported that Mangaung IRC has been at loggerheads with various councillors, including the Mangaung council speaker, Stefani Lockman-Naidoo, and former MMC for Transport, Patrick Monyakoane.
Meanwhile, the ANC IPC recently announced that they will hold their elective provincial conference by ‘month end of October.’ At least 31 branch delegates are expected to elect the new provincial executive committee (PEC) of the party.
The IPC spokesperson Oupa Khoabane told media that the September conference was not going to take place as previously planned.
“As a result, we will like to convey our sincere apologies for this inconvenience. We will announce a reviewed roadmap in due course,” said Khoabane.
Party President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to visit the province this weekend for the ANC’s Letsema campaign. Ramaphosa will lead the party’s Letsema campaign in Welkom, Matjhabeng Local Municipality.
